Kalu, Onyejeocha clinch APC Reps tickets as Abia primaries end

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu; and former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, have secured the All Progressives Congress, APC, tickets to contest the 2027 House of Representatives elections in Abia State.

Both political heavyweights emerged unopposed during the APC House of Representatives primary elections conducted across the eight federal constituencies in the state.

While Kalu was returned as the party’s candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Onyejeocha clinched the APC ticket for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, reaffirming their dominance in their respective political strongholds.

Announcing the results on Saturday night at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia, Chairman of the Abia State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Barrister Erasmus Cishak, said the exercise was peaceful, transparent and credible.

The primaries, according to him, witnessed active participation of party faithful and stakeholders across the state.

In other results announced by the committee, Hon. Chris Nkwonta emerged as the APC candidate for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, while Hon. Uzor Azubuike secured the ticket for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.

Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji, also emerged victorious in the primary election for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, setting the stage for what observers predict will be one of the most keenly contested races in the state.

Similarly, Hon. Uzoma Theodore Uka clinched the APC ticket for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency.

For Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Udo Alozie emerged winner, while Hon. Ikenna Nicholas secured the party’s ticket for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Barrister Cishak commended party members for what he described as their orderly conduct throughout the exercise, assuring that the committee adhered strictly to the principles of fairness, transparency and internal democracy.

The outcome of the primaries is seen as a major boost to the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections in Abia State, as the party intensifies efforts to consolidate its growing influence and challenge rival political parties across the state.
