Just In: Tinubu Gives Green Light to 65 Diplomatic Appointments, Including Reno to Mexico and Fani-Kayode to Germany

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the deployment of 65 ambassadors to their designated countries of assignment, following a lengthy wait after their nominations were ratified by the Senate in December.

A notable aspect of these deployments is the appointment of high-profile figures, including Reno Omokri, the former presidential spokesperson, who will be heading to Mexico, and Femi Fani-Kayode, the ex-aviation minister, who has been assigned to represent Nigeria in Germany.

Vice Admiral Ibok Ette-Ibas, a former military administrator to Rivers State, has been posted to the Philippines, while Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor of Abia State, will serve as the non-career ambassador to Spain.

Additionally, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the former governor of Enugu State, has been assigned to Greece, and Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, the former minister of interior, will represent Nigeria in China.

Other notable postings include Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Israel, Paul Adikwu to Vatican City, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who will serve as the UN Permanent Representative.

The journey to these deployments began in 2025 when President Tinubu submitted the nominees to the Senate for confirmation, which was secured before the end of that legislative year.
