Just In: 176 victims abducted in Kwara released – State govt

Kwara State Government has confirmed that all victims abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom.

The state government announced this on Wednesday through a post on its Facebook page, ending months of uncertainty over the fate of the 176 residents taken away during the deadly assault.

The government wrote, “Woro kidnap victims regain freedom. Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”

The victims were kidnapped after suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists reportedly invaded the rural communities on motorcycles and carried out a coordinated attack that lasted several hours.

Reports at the time indicated that more than 200 people were killed, several others sustained injuries, homes and businesses were destroyed, and many residents fled the affected communities.

Local vigilantes who attempted to resist the attackers were said to have been overwhelmed, with some allegedly trapped and burnt inside their office during the assault.

As of the time of filing this report, the state government had not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the victims’ release, including whether any rescue operation, negotiation, or other intervention led to their freedom.
