Joeboy concedes Tyla was more worthy of a Grammy nomination than his Nigerian counterparts

Nigerian singer and songwriter Joeboy has weighed in on the debate surrounding Tyla's win at the recent Grammy Awards, where she took home the 'Best African Music Performance' award, edging out several Nigerian artists.

In a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy expressed his genuine admiration for Tyla, stating that she earned the award through her tireless efforts, despite the disappointment felt by many others.

Joeboy confessed that he had personally been hoping Davido would emerge victorious in the 'Best African Music Performance' category at the 2026 Grammys.

However, he emphasized that Tyla's accomplishment is undeniable, saying "you can't take it away from Tyla, she is an amazing artiste, whether you accept it or not, she really put in the work."

Joeboy further asserted that Tyla's Grammy win is well-deserved, stating "people can be angry all they want, but she deserved the Grammy win, I cant fault her triumph."

Joeboy also revealed that Tyla is one of the artists he would like to collaborate with in the future, praising her exceptional talent and work ethic.

Tyla's award-winning song "Push 2 Start" surpassed strong competition from Nigerian stars, including Burna Boy's "Love", Ayra Starr and Wizkid's "Gimme Dat", and Davido's "With You" featuring Omah Lay, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin's "Hope & Love>.

This Grammy win marks Tyla's second, having previously won in 2024 for her hit single "Water."
