Joao Pedro ends Chelsea’s 2-yr wait for Player of the Month award

Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for August 2026, ending the club’s wait for the individual prize since Cole Palmer’s last victory almost two years ago.

According to Chelsea, Pedro finished ahead of Palmer and six other shortlisted players in the public vote to claim his first Premier League Player of the Month award.

The Brazilian made a flying start to the 2026/27 campaign, registering four goal contributions in Chelsea’s opening two Premier League matches as the Blues secured victories over Fulham and Brighton.

Joao Pedro opened his Chelsea account for the season just 33 seconds into the club’s opening match at Fulham before setting up Palmer for the winning goal.

He continued his impressive start against Brighton at Stamford Bridge, scoring before providing another assist for Palmer to seal the victory.

His performances earned him the August award and made him the first Chelsea player to win the Premier League Player of the Month prize since Palmer claimed his second in September 2024.

Palmer was again nominated for the latest award but finished behind his Chelsea teammate in the public vote.

Pedro becomes the latest Chelsea player to claim the monthly Premier League honour after Palmer’s back-to-back awards in April 2024 and September 2024.

The Brazilian will now look to maintain his strong start as Chelsea continue their Premier League campaign.
