Israeli Leader Visits Scene of Rocket Strike, Vows to Unleash Greater Destruction on Iran

Israeli President Isaac Herzog made a visit to a site in central Israel on Monday, which he identified as the impact site of an Iranian cluster munition, and he used the opportunity to caution the Islamic republic that the use of such weapons would ultimately lead to greater consequences for them.

Herzog issued this warning after touring a home in the coastal city of Rishon LeZion, near Tel Aviv, that had been damaged in a missile attack, where he observed firsthand the devastation caused by the strike.

As he surveyed the damage, Herzog noted that the cluster bomb had fallen directly into the living room of a family's home, resulting in a scene of utter devastation, with chunks of cement blasted off the walls, broken windows, and debris scattered across the floor.

The Israeli President's office released a statement and photos of his visit, which showed the extent of the damage to the living room, highlighting the severity of the impact.

According to Israel's first responders agency, Magen David Adom, one woman sustained minor injuries in the strike, despite having taken shelter at the time of the attack.

Herzog emphasized that the missile had been carrying cluster munitions, which release multiple bomblets into the air, causing widespread damage and harm.

The Israeli President denounced the use of such weapons, referring to them as the "weapon of the weak" and criticizing Iran for resorting to these tactics, which he characterized as cowardly.

Over 100 countries have signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which was adopted in 2008 and prohibits the use, transfer, production, and stockpiling of cluster bombs, although neither Iran nor Israel are signatories to this international agreement.

The Israeli military has reported that approximately 50 percent of the missiles being fired by Iran in the current conflict contain cluster munitions, highlighting the widespread use of these banned weapons.
