Israel reports intercepting Iranian missile bound for Jordan's port city of Aqaba

On Sunday, Israeli and Jordanian forces successfully intercepted an Iranian missile that was heading towards the Jordanian city of Aqaba, according to the Israeli military.

This revelation came after Amman denied reports that the city's airport and seaport had been evacuated due to a potential threat.

An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed that both Israeli and Jordanian forces had intercepted a projectile when asked about reports of explosions near the Israeli city of Eilat.

Minutes prior to the interception, the Israeli military had detected missiles launched from Iran towards Aqaba and warned of the possibility of "spillover" into Israeli territory.

The Jordanian military reported downing "three Iranian missiles that targeted the kingdom's territory", while a fourth missile fell in a deserted area, although the location was not specified.

Air raid sirens were activated in the Jordanian capital, Amman, as well as other parts of the kingdom, as a precautionary measure.

In a separate statement, the Israeli military announced that it had "launched several interceptors toward missile debris in order to prevent debris impact within Israeli territory".

As a result of this action, interceptor fragments were later found in an open area near the city of Eilat, with no damage or injuries reported.

Earlier, the Jordanian government had denied reports that authorities had ordered the evacuation of Aqaba's airport and seaport, despite the US embassy stating that they had been evacuated due to a "credible threat".

Jordanian government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani told AFP that "authorities have not issued any decisions to evacuate Aqaba Airport or the seaport, and both are operating normally".

The US embassy's statement followed the US military's announcement that two service members were killed in Jordan and one was missing after a barrage of Iranian strikes on Friday.

This incident marked the first fatalities among US forces since fighting with Iran resumed this month, with Jordan having repeatedly announced that it has countered Iranian attacks in recent days.
