Israel launches attacks on multiple locations in southern Lebanon, claiming it hit Hezbollah strongholds

Lebanon's army reported that one of its soldiers was among two people killed in an Israeli strike in the country's south on April 29, marking the latest deadly incident despite a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war.

Israel's military conducted strikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday, targeting dozens of Hezbollah targets, according to the Israeli military.

The attacks have become a frequent occurrence, with both sides accusing each other of violating the fragile ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war.

The Israeli military issued a statement saying it had struck Hezbollah targets, resulting in the dismantling of "approximately 70 military structures and approximately 50 Hezbollah infrastructure sites" across several areas on Saturday.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) also reported a series of Israeli strikes that took place across southern Lebanon.

Prior to the strikes, the Israeli army had issued two evacuation warnings for nine southern villages.

Hezbollah claimed to have carried out several attacks targeting Israeli troops, stating they were in response to ceasefire "violations".

Despite the April 17 ceasefire aimed at halting more than six weeks of war between Israel and Hezbollah, Israel has continued to conduct deadly strikes on Lebanon.

The ceasefire agreement grants Israel the right to take action against "planned, imminent or ongoing attacks".

On Saturday, Lebanese army chief Rodolphe Haykal met with visiting US General Joseph Clearfield, who heads a five-member committee responsible for monitoring a 2024 ceasefire intended to end the last war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The meeting between Haykal and Clearfield focused on "the security situation in Lebanon, regional developments, and ways to maximise the effectiveness of the (committee) and enhance its operations", according to a Lebanese army statement.

Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of more than 2,600 people in Lebanon and displaced over a million since Hezbollah drew the country into the Middle East war on March 2 in support of its backer Iran.
