Israel hit by Iranian missile strike, injuring two people

On Thursday, the Israeli military reported that its air defences had responded to missile attacks originating from Iran, which resulted in two people suffering light wounds and some damage, according to medical personnel.

Medics from Israel's Magen David Adom emergency medical service informed public radio that several houses in the central city of Kafr Qassem had been damaged, with the city's Mayor Haitham Taha attributing the damage to cluster munitions.

The Israeli military stated that Home Front Command rescuers were dispatched to an impact site in central Israel, as part of the response to the missile attacks.

In two separate statements issued approximately 20 minutes apart, the military announced that it had identified missiles launched from Iran towards Israeli territory, and that defensive systems were operating to intercept the threat.

Following these statements, the military declared that people were permitted to leave protected spaces in all areas of the country, as the immediate threat had passed.

Air raid sirens sounded across central Israel, including in Tel Aviv and parts of Jerusalem, as well as in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, in response to the incoming missiles.

The attacks from Iran occurred more than 14 hours after the military had initially announced incoming missiles from the same country.

Overnight, central Israel had come under fire from Lebanon, where the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a series of attacks targeting Israeli military sites.

According to Israeli media reports, six rockets were intercepted during these attacks from Lebanon.
