Israel calls on UN Security Council to label Iran's Revolutionary Guard a 'terrorist entity

Gideon Saar, Israel's foreign minister, made a pressing appeal to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, calling for Iran's Revolutionary Guards to be officially labeled as a "terrorist organisation" amidst the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran, now in its 12th day.

The Iranian regime's latest actions have highlighted the direct threat its aggression poses, not only to Israel, but also to regional and global peace and security, as emphasized by Gideon Saar in a post on X.

In a letter addressed to US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, the current president of the Security Council, Gideon Saar urged the UN body to condemn Iran and promptly designate the IRGC as a terrorist organisation.

The IRGC serves as the ideological arm of Tehran's military, established after the 1979 revolution to safeguard the clerical leadership, and exercises control over or owns various companies spanning key sectors of the Iranian economy.

The United States and Israel initiated strikes against Iran on February 28, resulting in the death of the country's supreme leader and precipitating a spiraling war in the Middle East.

The US has already designated the Iran Guards as a "terrorist organisation", a move that was followed by the European Union in January, in response to the regime's deadly crackdown on widespread protests.
