Isaac Fayose slams brother for insensitive remarks on Oyo kidnappings, says relevance shouldn't be achieved through coercion

Isaac Fayose has criticised his elder brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, over his recent comments on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, saying it is “not by force to be relevant”.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, Isaac faulted his brother’s remarks linking the recent insecurity incidents and governance in Oyo State, describing the comments as unnecessary and misleading.

“Four, five years ago, they kidnapped people in Ekiti State, and you’re supporting the governor. Why didn’t you tell the governor that you are collecting security vote? Why can’t you protect Ekiti people?” he said.

Isaac also questioned what he described as selective criticism of state governments over insecurity, citing other states affected by violence.

“People are looking at you and saying, ‘What is this man turning to? So you mean people that have been dying in APC states, Borno, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara – their governors pocket their security vote?” he added.

He urged his brother to stop making controversial political statements, warning against speaking on issues without proper context.

“My brother, if you don’t have anything to say, please stay quiet like any other former governors. It’s not by force to be relevant,” he said.

The video comes in the wake of controversial remarks by Ayodele Fayose, who had alleged that the Oyo State government may have orchestrated the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of the state to embarrass President Bola Tinubu.

Fayose made the allegation during a televised interview on Channels Television on Monday, where he questioned the handling of the incident by the Oyo State Government and suggested political motives behind its response.

The former governor claimed that Governor Makinde did not act promptly following the abduction and only visited victims’ families after political activities.

“I sometimes believe that the abduction at Oyo school was orchestrated by the Oyo State Government to blackmail President Tinubu,” Fayose had said.
