Larijani's statement, posted on X, asserted that Iran is unafraid of Trump's "empty threats," and noted that even more powerful entities have been unable to eradicate the Iranian nation.

Trump had previously posted on Truth Social, stating that if Iran disrupts the oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would retaliate with a force twenty times greater than any previous attack.

Larijani's response to Trump's post included a direct warning, urging the US President to "take care of yourself not to be eliminated."

The exchange occurred in the aftermath of US and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and sparked a regional war.

The conflict has prompted Iran to launch drone and missile strikes against Israel and other countries in the region, severely disrupting shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
