Iran's governing council set to convene shortly to select successor to top spiritual authority
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, Iran's hardline judiciary chief, is a member of the Assembly of Experts, which is set to convene shortly to select the country's next supreme leader, according to reports from Iranian media on Saturday.
nThe Assembly of Experts will hold its meeting within a day, as announced by Hossein Mozafari, one of the assembly's 88 members, who expressed confidence that the session would take place with divine assistance within the next twenty-four hours.
nMozafari's statement was cited by the Fars news agency, and it comes at a time of significant upheaval in the country, just a week after the killing of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israeli attack.
nIn an effort to maintain stability, Mozafari urged the Iranian people to refrain from any speculation and the spreading of rumors regarding the matter of choosing a new supreme leader, emphasizing that the assembly has not yet convened for a session.
