Iranian President Says American Naval Blockade is Bound to Flop

Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran's President, asserted on Thursday that a US naval blockade of Iranian ports would exacerbate disruptions in the Gulf and ultimately prove ineffective in achieving its goals.

He stated that any attempt to impose a maritime blockade or restrictions would be a violation of international law and is destined to fail, according to a statement released by Pezeshkian.

Pezeshkian further emphasized that such measures would not only fail to enhance regional security, but would actually serve as a source of tension and a disruption to lasting stability in the Persian Gulf.

The United States imposed a naval blockade on Iran's ports and coasts on April 13, just days after a ceasefire brought an end to its war with Iran.

Iran's military has maintained control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital conduit for global oil and gas shipments, and has recently threatened to respond if the US blockade continues.

On Wednesday, Mojtaba Khamenei's military adviser reiterated this warning, without providing further details.

Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander-in-chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and recently appointed military adviser to Khamenei in March, warned that Iran will not tolerate the naval blockade and will respond if it continues.

Rezaei also cautioned against the possibility of a new round of fighting between the US and Iran, suggesting that it could result in US ships being sunk and US soldiers being killed.

He added that if the US initiates another war, Iran will take a large number of US soldiers prisoner.

Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad dismissed concerns over oil supply and distribution, stating that the US will not achieve any results from its blockade.

Paknejad told state TV that oil industry employees are working tirelessly to ensure that there are no problems in providing services.

Also on Wednesday, Iran's army navy commander Shahram Irani indicated that Iran will deploy newly developed naval weaponry in the very near future.
