Iran handed us a 'significant gift' by pledging to forever renounce nuclear arms, says Trump

US President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that Iran had given him a significant gift related to the Strait of Hormuz, bolstering his confidence in his dealings with Tehran to bring an end to the war, which has been ongoing for four weeks.

This development came a day after Trump unexpectedly delayed threatened attacks on Iran's power plants and disclosed that Washington was engaged in negotiations with certain figures in Iran, despite Tehran's denial of being part of any such talks.

Trump described the gift from Iran as "amazing" and "worth a tremendous amount of money," stating that it was "oil and gas-related" and had arrived the day after Iran took the action that led to the gift.

The US president noted that the gift was connected to the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been disrupted by the conflict, but clarified that it was not related to Iran's nuclear program.

Trump also reiterated his claim that the Iranian side had agreed that they would never possess a nuclear weapon, and expressed optimism about the negotiations, saying "we're dealing with the right people" and "they want to make a deal so badly."

The identity of the individuals with whom the US is negotiating in Tehran remains unclear, with Trump only stating on Monday that it is a "top person" as he postponed a threat to attack Iran's energy sites by five days.

The US president pointed to the killing of former Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei and other top officials as a significant development, saying "we have really regime change" and "the leaders are all very different with the ones that we started off with."

Trump disclosed that a team including US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, global envoy Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner were involved in the Iranian talks.

However, he did not confirm reports that Witkoff and Kushner were planning to travel to Pakistan for talks with Iran, with Vance possibly following afterward if the negotiations appeared promising.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered to act as a mediator to end the conflict on Tuesday, stating that he had spoken with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and promised Islamabad's assistance in bringing peace to the region.

Trump jokingly said that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was not interested in a peaceful resolution because he wanted to continue striking Iranian targets, with Hegseth responding that "we see ourselves as part of this negotiation as well" and "we negotiate with bombs."
