International Women's Day: Gbonse Foundation Provides Free Health Checks to More Than 100 Females

Over 100 women participated in a medical screening event held by the Gbonse Foundation for Economic Development in Lagos on Monday, coinciding with the commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026.

This event drew women from diverse backgrounds to the foundation's office in the Igando area, where they received health talks and underwent various medical checks, including weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure assessments.

Helen Olaniyan, founder and CEO of Gbonse Foundation, delivered a speech through Aishat Falade, emphasizing the significance of the outreach, which aligns with the global celebration of International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to acknowledging women's strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions to families, communities, and society.

Olaniyan highlighted that women often serve as caregivers and the backbone of homes, driving economic and social development, yet many women and families face challenges in accessing basic healthcare and financial opportunities.

The speech underscored the importance of empowering women by ensuring they have access to quality healthcare, financial support, and opportunities for economic independence, as this ultimately leads to stronger families, healthier communities, and societal progress.

Gbonse Foundation is committed to improving the lives of underserved individuals through financial empowerment, microfinance initiatives, social support, and accessible healthcare services, with the Monday outreach being part of this mission.

The event provided an opportunity for individuals, especially those with limited access to medical care, to receive basic health checks, medical advice, and guidance on preventing illness and promoting long-term health.

Dr. Bamidele Oni, a medical practitioner, advised the women to prioritize their health and undergo regular checks to prevent silent killers like high blood pressure, which can cause stroke, and also spoke about the importance of regular breast examinations for breast cancer detection.

Dr. Oni stressed that early detection is crucial in saving lives, particularly in the context of breast cancer and other health issues.

Susan Aigbe, a staff member of the organization, outlined the objectives of Gbonse Foundation, which include supporting individuals and families, especially those with limited resources, by promoting economic empowerment, improving access to healthcare, and providing social assistance.

Aigbe explained that the foundation's goal is to help families improve their living conditions and reduce poverty within their communities by supporting small businesses, organizing free medical checkups, and implementing community support programs that address the needs of vulnerable groups.
