Internal party members, including governors and legislators, are to blame for PDP's turmoil, according to Abba Moro, who rules out interference from outside factors.

Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader, has placed the blame for the ongoing internal crises within political parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), squarely on the shoulders of political actors within these parties, arguing that external institutions are not the cause of the instability.

Moro made this assertion during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, stating that the challenges faced by the PDP and other parties are largely self-inflicted by their own members, including governors, lawmakers, and party leaders.

He explicitly stated that political actors are primarily responsible for the current state of affairs, explaining that the crises within political parties are generated and aggravated by these same actors.

Moro further clarified his position by emphasizing that governors, legislators, and party leaders are primarily responsible for the ongoing issues within their parties.

Regarding claims of factionalisation within the PDP, Moro dismissed the notion that the party is divided into multiple blocs, affirming that there is only one PDP.

He revisited the controversial Ibadan convention, which he believed deepened the party's crisis due to the non-compliance with a subsisting court order, rendering the convention and its outcome null and void.

According to Moro, disagreements among key stakeholders, including Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde, contributed to the tensions surrounding the choice of Ibadan as the venue for the convention.

Despite the internal wrangling, Moro maintained that the PDP remains operational, citing the recent convention monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which produced a recognised leadership.

He also dismissed claims that party members are losing confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that mobilisation efforts are ongoing and that many party members, including senators, are not hesitant to move forward in preparation for the election.

Moro acknowledged that reconciliation efforts within the party have not been fully successful and criticised calls for the resignation of the INEC chairman, describing such demands as misplaced.
