Interfaith Council seeks transparent probe into death of nurse Mary Habila

The Interfaith Youth Council of Nigeria (IYCN) has called for an independent and transparent investigation into the death of nurse Mary Habila, urging the public to avoid speculation while inquiries are ongoing.

Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi, the council cautioned against premature conclusions and inflammatory comments that could undermine the integrity of the investigation.

In a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Moses S. Moses, the IYCN called for a thorough and professional probe based solely on evidence and free from political interference or undue influence.

The council noted that Habila had worked as a healthcare professional in the household of the Minister of Works for about three years.

According to the IYCN, a report from the Federal Ministry of Works indicated that she maintained a cordial and professional relationship with the minister during her period of service. However, the council stressed that this information should not influence the outcome of the investigation.

The group appealed to political leaders, media organisations and civil society groups to exercise restraint and allow the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations without interference.

“In any society governed by the rule of law, criminal responsibility can only be determined through a credible investigation,” the council stated, stressing that justice must be pursued in line with due process.

The IYCN also extended its condolences to the family of Mary Habila and urged Nigerians to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.
