INEC's endorsement of Wike's PDP faction is duplicitous and untrustworthy, says Bode George

Chief Olabode George, the Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has vehemently denounced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for acknowledging a faction of the party led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, labelling the move as "deceitful" and "dishonest".

In a statement, George reaffirmed his previous position that Wike and his associates were expelled from the party during a meeting in Ibadan last November, stressing that they only represent a small fraction of the PDP.

George alleged that INEC's decision signals a deliberate attempt to undermine opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election, and warned that this could have severe consequences.

According to George, the recognition of Wike's group by INEC "can only spell doom for this country" and raises serious concerns about the future of Nigeria's democracy.

He criticised INEC for endorsing individuals who have allegedly subverted the party, adding that such actions could destabilise Nigeria's political landscape and undermine the democratic process.

George expressed disappointment over the development, stating that it erodes democratic principles and the rule of law, and urged party members and supporters to remain calm and await the Supreme Court's ruling on the matter.

George expressed confidence that justice would prevail, saying "The truth must prevail, and the will of the people must stand above any form of manipulation".

The PDP chieftain maintained that all aspirants should be given a level playing field to contest elections under the party's platform, warning that any attempt to sideline legitimate members could weaken internal cohesion and party unity.

George concluded by calling for adherence to due process and respect for democratic institutions in resolving intra-party disputes, to ensure the integrity of the party and the democratic system.
