Individual faces charges for damaging former partner's residence

A 35-year-old man named Samuel stood before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday, accused of breaking into his former lover's apartment and causing damage to property valued at N650,000.

Samuel, whose address was not disclosed, faces a three-count charge comprising malicious damage, unlawful entry, and conduct likely to cause inconvenience, with the prosecutor being SP Josephine Ikhayere.

According to SP Ikhayere, the alleged offences took place on July 16 at No. 1, Segun Durojaye Close, Pako Bus Stop, Ikotun, Lagos, where the defendant allegedly damaged property belonging to Oluwatoyin Olamide.

The damaged items included three doors and three keys, which were valued at N650,000, and the defendant allegedly entered the apartment unlawfully and behaved in a manner that could cause inconvenience.

The prosecutor asserted that these actions contravene Sections 157(e), 308(1), and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, outlining the specific laws that the defendant allegedly broke.

Samuel denied the charges brought against him, entering a plea of not guilty to the three counts.

Magnitude Mr Lateef A. Owolabi, the presiding magistrate, granted Samuel bail in the amount of N400,000, with the requirement of two reliable sureties who must provide the same amount.

The court proceedings have been adjourned until August 25, at which time the case will be heard.
