Images: NNPC's OB3 Gas Pipeline Spans the Niger River

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited has successfully completed the River Niger crossing of the 130-kilometre Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben, OB3, gas pipeline, a significant milestone in the company's operations.

This achievement was made possible by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company, a subsidiary of NNPC, as revealed in a statement released on Thursday.

According to the statement issued by Andy Odeh, NNPC Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the OB3 Pipeline has a capacity of two billion standard cubic feet per day and serves as a crucial link between the Eastern gas network and the Western network.

The pipeline also extends connectivity to the Northern corridor through the AKK Pipeline, thereby enhancing the country's gas infrastructure.

The successful crossing of the River Niger is expected to unlock over 500 million standard cubic feet of incremental gas supply for the domestic market in the near term, supporting power generation, industrial growth, and gas supply to the West African market.

Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, described the milestone as a testament to disciplined execution and technical excellence, demonstrating the company's capabilities.

Engr. Ojulari noted that the completion of the OB3 River Niger Crossing is a defining milestone for Nigeria's gas infrastructure, showcasing the benefits of disciplined execution and sustained commitment to excellence.

By successfully completing this critical section of the project, NNPC Limited has enhanced gas supply reliability, deepened domestic utilisation, and supported power generation and industrial growth across the country, according to Engr. Ojulari.

The achievement builds on NNPC Limited's growing engineering and execution capability, drawing from the successful AKK River Niger Crossing in June 2025, to deliver an even more complex crossing in the Niger Delta environment.
