DR Congo’s iconic fan Michel Kuka Mboladinga made his first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup during the Leopards’ Group K clash against Colombia after missing the team’s opener due to an Ebola-related quarantine.

Known as “Lumumba Vea”, Mboladinga is famous for dressing as and posing like Patrice Lumumba, DR Congo’s first prime minister, standing motionless with his right arm raised throughout matches.

The popular supporter missed DR Congo’s surprise 1-1 draw with Portugal national football team after undergoing a 21-day quarantine following Ebola outbreaks in his home country.

He has since rejoined the team delegation after completing his isolation.

Mboladinga, who says his tribute is a “sign of peace” for his homeland, became a global sensation during the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and was warmly welcomed by fans at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara.

He was seen posing for photos with both Congolese and Colombian supporters before returning to his trademark silent support in the stands.

However, his return did not inspire a positive result for DR Congo, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Colombia national football team after a deflected effort from Daniel Muñoz proved decisive.
