Igbo Coalition Calls on Tinubu to Foster Peace in Run-Up to 2027 Polls

A call to action has been issued to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Igbo Agenda Dialogue, a pan-Igbo socio-political organisation, to foster a calm and composed political environment in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

This appeal was formally expressed in an open letter signed by Chekwas Okorie, the group's convener, on Thursday in Abuja.

The letter implores President Tinubu to exercise guidance over political actors and government officials, encouraging them to adopt a moderate tone in their public statements and to engage in issue-based discussions within the political sphere.

The Igbo Agenda Dialogue has also urged political parties, with particular emphasis on the ruling All Progressives Congress, to focus on presenting their policy proposals and development plans to the Nigerian populace as the next election cycle commences.

The organisation has appealed for consideration in the case of Nnamdi Kanu, suggesting that a path of dialogue and adherence to lawful processes could contribute to easing tensions in the South-East.

While acknowledging the prevailing security challenges, the Igbo Agenda Dialogue has commended the efforts of security agencies in addressing these issues and has called for sustained reforms aimed at bolstering public safety.

The group has further urged political stakeholders to promote extensive citizen participation in the electoral process and to ensure that campaigns remain peaceful, with a focus on issues pertinent to national development.

The Igbo Agenda Dialogue has also appealed to President Tinubu to reassure the Nigerian populace of the government's commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in 2027, emphasizing that trust in the democratic process is essential for maintaining national stability.
