Ibadan natives verify that dispute between Makinde and Olubadan has been settled

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has confirmed that the tensions between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, have been amicably resolved, with external forces that attempted to inflame the situation being firmly defeated, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the council's Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide.

The statement, which quoted the CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, explained that the disagreement was successfully addressed through internal dialogue and established traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms within Ibadanland, highlighting the resilience of Ibadan's internal leadership structure.

Ajewole stated that "the issues between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan have been resolved amicably, and the external forces that attempted to create a crisis around the situation have been defeated", underscoring the enduring relationship between both leaders.

He emphasized that the situation never escalated to a level warranting external interference, as elders and key stakeholders intervened promptly, and noted that "nobody is planning to impeach Governor Makinde, and nobody is also planning to remove the Olubadan from his throne".

Ajewole described efforts by external actors to heighten tensions as unnecessary and counterproductive, stressing that Ibadan possesses the capacity to manage its own affairs without outside involvement, due to the relationship between the governor and the Olubadan being anchored on mutual respect and a father-and-son dynamic.

According to Ajewole, "if there is any disagreement between the governor and the Olubadan, it will always be settled internally because their relationship is that of a son and father", and Ibadan elders and stakeholders acted swiftly to safeguard peace and unity.

The CCII President-General warned individuals and groups who sought to exploit the disagreement to desist from further actions, and reiterated that the episode has once again demonstrated Ibadan's ability to resolve internal matters without external interference.

Ajewole called on residents of Ibadan and the wider Oyo State community to remain calm and continue supporting initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and development, citing the need for unity and cooperation.

The CCII President-General commended Governor Makinde's performance in office, citing his "giant strides" in infrastructure development, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, job creation, and improved security across the state, particularly in Ibadan.

Ajewole also praised the Olubadan's leadership and vision for the ancient city, stating "we also appreciate the Olubadan for his commitment to the growth and development of Ibadan, particularly through innovative committees including economic and anti–land-grabbing committees and his efforts at ensuring Ibadan becomes an economic powerhouse in Nigeria and West Africa".

The CCII President-General reaffirmed the council's commitment to preserving harmony among Ibadan's leadership and safeguarding the unity of the ancient city, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and mutual respect.
