Ibadan conference: Accord party disavows support for unified candidacy, calls for its name to be withdrawn

The Accord Party has publicly denied any involvement in a recent political coalition meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where 14 parties allegedly agreed to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, emphasizing that it did not attend the meeting or endorse its decisions.

The party's National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, issued a statement on behalf of the leadership led by Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, clarifying the party's position and distancing itself from the coalition meeting.

According to the statement, the party was not aware of the meeting and did not send any representatives, making it unjust to include Accord in the coalition, the party asserted.

Accord also criticized the meeting's organizers for listing the party as a participant despite its national leadership being absent, and warned against actions that could escalate tensions ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party acknowledged that forming alliances is a legitimate option for political parties, but stressed that such arrangements should only involve the parties directly concerned.

Accord described its inclusion in the coalition as reckless and demanded that its name be removed immediately, stating that it remains focused on the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections and preparations for 2027.
