‘History will be kind to you’ — Soludo thanks Tinubu over Southeast road projects

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major roads linking Anambra to neighbouring states, describing the development as part of the President’s deliberate effort to rebuild the Southeast.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Soludo said the approval followed a meeting he had with the President on July 1, after which the Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Sen. Dave Umahi, requested details of the roads previously discussed between them.

He said he forwarded details of two roads to the Minister on July 3: the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) road, about 108 kilometres, and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) road, about 150 kilometres, which connects Anambra and Imo States to the Enugu–Port Harcourt road through Abia State.

The governor said he received confirmation from the Ministry of Works on July 15 that the President had approved both roads for design and procurement.

“These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the South-East, South-South and North Central,” Soludo said, adding that the projects were evidence of the President’s “avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the Southeast.”

He described Tinubu as someone continuing to demonstrate a deliberate focus on the region, saying there were “several unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths” currently ongoing in the South-East, without giving further details, but promised that a fuller list of projects would be released later.

Soludo praised Tinubu’s Lagos coastal expansion project in his commendation, referring to him as “the man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos,” and said the President was “redefining politics” in a way that would leave the South-East “not the same again.”

The governor also credited the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, for his role in facilitating the swift approval, describing him as “our own ever-productive and beloved” minister.

Soludo said the collaboration reflected his belief in “working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people,” and thanked the President, whom he addressed by his political sobriquet, Asiwaju.
