Hayatu-Deen enters ADC's presidential contest, vows to bring progress and national cohesion

Muhammad Hayatu-Deen, a renowned economist and banker, has formally announced his intention to run for president on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, with a focus on promoting national development and unity, on Arise TV Tuesday night.

Hayatu-Deen's decision to join the ADC was motivated by the internal crises plaguing major opposition parties, which he believes have eroded their effectiveness, and he views the ADC as a burgeoning platform that is bringing together seasoned political actors committed to building a more stable opposition ahead of future elections.

According to Hayatu-Deen, the current state of opposition parties has been significantly weakened, with many struggling with internal challenges, whereas the ADC is attracting individuals with governance experience who are working to build a viable alternative.

The former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group noted that the ADC boasts many key figures who have held high public offices, including governorship and vice-presidential positions, which will bolster the party's prospects due to their experience.

Hayatu-Deen addressed concerns about his political structure and grassroots reach, stating that his lifelong engagement across Nigeria, through education and professional work, has enabled him to build strong national networks.

He emphasized that his ambition is backed by decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, describing himself as a candidate with deep institutional knowledge, and stated, "I've been in politics all my life, and my experiences across different parts of Nigeria have allowed me to build relationships nationwide."

Hayatu-Deen identified national security and economic reform as interlinked challenges that must be addressed simultaneously, stating that issues like poverty, unemployment, and lack of opportunity significantly contribute to insecurity.

He proposed convening experts and stakeholders across sectors to develop urgent and coordinated solutions, drawing inspiration from past national development frameworks, to address the twin challenges of security and economy.

Hayatu-Deen expressed confidence in his political base, saying he has built support networks across the country and believes Nigerians are seeking leadership with strong economic and governance experience.

Driven by a lifelong passion for national development, Hayatu-Deen stated that his ambition is rooted in a desire to contribute to solving Nigeria's socio-economic challenges, and said, "I have always been deeply concerned about the development of this country, and my focus is on contributing meaningfully to its progress."

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the ADC leadership, pledging to respect the party's decision-making process regarding its presidential candidate, and stated, "I have confidence in the leadership of the party and will abide by whatever decision is taken."
