Today, we celebrate my very own mother in the struggle for self-determination and resource control, Comrade Mrs. Rosemary Aken John-Oduone, Emeritus President and Founder of the Ijaw Women Connect (IWC) Worldwide.
Mum, your life and work have become a living testimony of what it means to be courageous, principled, and unwavering in the face of challenges. You have stood firm when others faltered, you have raised your voice when others were silent, and you have carried the torch of Ijaw liberation with dignity and strength. Through your commitment, you have given our women a voice, our youths a path, and our people renewed hope in the struggle for justice, equity, and resource control.
On this special day, I join your countless admirers, followers, and children in the struggle to honor you not just as a leader, but as a true mother, mentor, and guide. Your legacy will continue to inspire the next generation of Ijaw daughters and sons to rise up, defend their rights, and pursue the cause of freedom with courage.
