Gunners reach £75m agreement to sign Magpies skipper Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal have secured a deal with Newcastle United to acquire the services of Bruno Guimaraes, the Brazilian midfielder, in a transfer worth £75 million, and he is now slated to undergo a medical examination.

The Premier League champions had initially seen their offer rejected, but subsequent negotiations yielded an agreement, paving the way for the 28-year-old's move to the Emirates.

Guimaraes, who made the switch to Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 for a fee of £40 million, had expressed his desire to join Arsenal earlier in the summer, provided an acceptable offer was made.

During his tenure at St James' Park, the Brazil international amassed 195 appearances and scored 31 goals, with two years remaining on his contract, as well as an optional one-year extension held by Newcastle.

According to Keith Downie, a reporter for Sky Sports, Newcastle were resolute in their determination to retain their captain, and would only consider a sale if Guimaraes requested a move and Arsenal met the club's valuation.

Downie stated that Newcastle would have refused any offer from Arsenal or other clubs if Guimaraes had chosen to stay, underscoring the midfielder's desire to leave in pursuit of titles.

Guimaraes reportedly viewed the move to Arsenal as his "last big opportunity to win titles," and Downie noted that Newcastle handled the transfer with professionalism, with Guimaraes attending the club's pre-season training camp in Spain amidst ongoing negotiations.

Newcastle felt that Guimaraes had fulfilled their demands impeccably, and sought to avoid a repeat of the situation with Alexander Isak, according to Downie.

The deal will result in Newcastle earning over £240 million from player sales this summer, following the departures of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.
