Gunmen claim one life, take five hostage in overnight attack on Sokoto village

A fresh wave of insecurity has gripped Sokoto State after armed bandits launched a nighttime raid on Mallamawar Yari village in Kware Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and five others abducted, according to reports from residents and authorities.

The attack occurred on Saturday night, with the bandits firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic among the villagers, who reside near the More area on the outskirts of Sokoto metropolis.

The assault sent the village into a state of chaos, with residents struggling to come to terms with the sudden outbreak of violence, which has become all too common in the region.

Initial claims that the bandits wore hijabs as disguises were swiftly debunked by the Nigeria Police Force in Sokoto, which confirmed that the attackers did not use any form of disguise during the raid.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ahmed Rufai, the Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the attack, stating, “The attack is true, and it resulted in the kidnapping of five people and the death of one person.”

Security sources have revealed that the five abducted victims comprise three women and two men, who were taken away to an unknown location by the bandits.
