Gunmen abduct former military spokesperson, Major General Abubakar, and his spouse

Suspected armed bandits have carried out the abduction of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, along with his wife, in Katsina State.

The incident occurred on Saturday, along the Katsina–Matazu road, as the former senior military officer and his wife were travelling, with their vehicle being stopped by armed men in Matazu Local Government Area.

Following the stop, the couple was taken away to an unknown location, while their driver managed to escape the incident, albeit with a bullet injury.

Major General Abubakar, during his tenure as military spokesperson, held a crucial position in defence communication within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The kidnapping has further exacerbated concerns about insecurity in the North-West region, particularly in Katsina, where abduction cases and armed attacks continue to escalate, affecting both residents and travellers alike.
