Governor Zulum warns that a pair of deadly attackers remain at large in Maiduguri

Borno State governor Babagana Zulum has revealed that five suicide bombers infiltrated the state, with only three having detonated their IEDs so far, leaving two remaining bombers still at large.

Zulum made this disclosure in an exclusive interview with BBC News Pidgin on Friday, while addressing the triple blasts that occurred in Maiduguri, the Borno capital in north-east Nigeria.

The blasts, which targeted the Post Office area, the Monday Market stretch, and the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, resulted in the deaths of at least 23 people and injured around 100 others.

The explosions took place on Monday evening, coinciding with the time Muslims were breaking their fast during Ramadan, and the Nigerian Army has attributed the attacks to Boko Haram militants.

In the interview, Zulum stated that security teams are actively pursuing the remaining two bombers, and his government is committed to thwarting their plans.

According to Zulum, "We've got solid intelligence that five suicide bombers made it into Maiduguri, and three have already detonated their devices, while we're currently tracking the remaining two.

Zulum expressed his deep sadness upon receiving the news while in Saudi Arabia, stating that as the governor and chief security officer of Borno, the news "hit me hard".

He offered his prayers to the victims and their families, reassuring the people of Maiduguri and the entire state that the current security crisis will eventually come to an end.

Since returning home, Zulum has been engaged in back-to-back meetings with the military and other security chiefs to bring the situation under control.
