Governor Yusuf hails Shekarau's defection to APC, asserts party's enhanced presence in Kano

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State extended a warm welcome to former governor and senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau on Sunday, as he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that the governor believes will significantly bolster the party's presence in the state.

This development was made public through a statement released by Mustapha Muhammad, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, in Kano.

According to Governor Yusuf, a formal date for Shekarau's reception into the APC will be determined in consultation with the party's national secretariat, highlighting the party's ongoing growth and consolidation in Kano State.

The governor expressed confidence that the APC is poised to emerge victorious in all upcoming elections, citing the party's unity and strategic alliances as key factors driving this optimism.

Governor Yusuf also reassured party members and supporters that the APC leadership is dedicated to fostering internal unity and expanding the party's grassroots support base across the state.

He urged party faithful to remain committed and continue mobilizing support as the party prepares for future electoral contests.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Shekarau announced his decision to join the APC while addressing supporters at his Mundubawa residence in Kano on Sunday.

Shekarau, a two-term former governor, explained that his decision was made after extensive consultations with his political group and careful consideration of various options.

He stated, "We took the decision after wide deliberations and weighing several options which include joining the APC after realising that PDP is facing so many challenges."

Shekarau further explained, "We cannot align with ADC, a party filled up with people of personal interests, a party struggling to get its feet," highlighting his reasons for choosing the APC over other alternatives.
