Governor Yusuf Dissolves Ministry of Higher Education, Removes Deputy Governor from Commissioner Post

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has abolished the Ministry of Higher Education, where his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, is currently serving as Commissioner.

This move is accompanied by the Governor's approval to merge the Ministry with the Ministry of Education, a step intended to bolster coordination and expedite reforms in Kano State's education sector.

A statement released by the Governor's spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, outlined the restructuring, which will establish a specialized Directorate of Higher Education within the Ministry of Education to oversee tertiary education activities.

The Directorate will be led by a Permanent Secretary, supported by necessary personnel to ensure effective management of higher education institutions in the state.

As part of the restructuring, agencies previously under the Ministry of Higher Education, including the Scholarship Board, will be reintegrated into the Ministry of Education, while state-owned universities and other higher education institutes will be supervised by the new Directorate.

The reform is aimed at repositioning the education sector, eliminating duplicated responsibilities, improving policy coordination across all education levels, and reducing the cost of governance, according to the statement.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the reform seeks to reduce governance costs while enhancing efficiency, accountability, and the overall quality of education administration in Kano State.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to implementing reforms that will revitalize the education sector and secure a brighter future for the younger generation.

The Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service have been instructed to ensure the immediate and seamless realignment of the affected ministries and their respective departments.
