Governor Wike's PDP faction refutes reports of alliance discussions with ADC, vows to pursue litigation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday firmly pushed back against reports of a possible alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that it could take legal action against those behind what it described as false claims.

The party said it spoke out as the speculation began to spread and gain attention ahead of 2027, stressing that it is not in talks with any political group and remains focused on rebuilding and repositioning itself as a viable alternative.

The factional National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, aligned with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, made this known at the inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

“In light of recent speculations, we wish to state unequivocally that the Peoples Democratic Party is not engaged in any merger or coalition discussions with the African Democratic Congress or with any other political party in Nigeria.

n

“The PDP remains a strong, independent political platform with a clear vision and a credible pathway to reclaiming its leadership role at the national level,” Muhammed said.

The pushback quickly turned direct. The party also took aim at comments linked to a factional leader of the party, Kabiru Taminu Turaki, SAN, describing them as misleading and an attempt to create a false impression that talks were ongoing.

“We therefore strongly condemn the misleading and unfounded statements attributed to Taminu Turaki, which attempt to create a false narrative of non-existent coalition talks.

n

“Such assertions are not only inaccurate but represent a deliberate effort to misinform the public and undermine the integrity of our party,” Muhammed added.

He warned that, while the PDP respects freedom of expression, it would not ignore actions that could damage its reputation.

n

“The PDP will take all necessary legal steps to address any conduct that borders on contempt of court or misrepresentation, in accordance with extant laws,” he said.

Beyond the coalition issue, the party said it has moved past its internal leadership crisis after months of legal battles that tested its stability.

n

“It is also significant to note that the question of leadership, which was once subject to contention, has now been conclusively settled,” he said.

According to the party, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised and uploaded the names of its national officers, a move it says confirms the legitimacy of the current leadership.

“The era of uncertainty is behind us, and the PDP is once again firmly anchored on a foundation of legality and order,” Muhammed stated.

The PDP described its recent national convention as a turning point, saying it demonstrated order, transparency and internal discipline.

n

“We take particular pride in celebrating what has been widely acknowledged as one of the most organised and credible National Conventions ever conducted by an opposition party in our nation’s history,” he said.

It also praised security agencies for their role during the crisis, particularly in protecting party assets and restoring access to its headquarters.

“Their role in safeguarding our properties, including the unsealing and restoration of access to our National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza and Legacy House, is deeply appreciated,” he said.

With its internal battles behind it, the party said it is now turning its full attention to the future.

“Looking towards 2027, we assure Nigerians that the PDP will present ideas, leadership, and solutions that reflect the true aspirations of our people.

n

“The Peoples Democratic Party is back, stronger than ever, and ready to lead,” Muhammed added.
