Government dismisses speculation surrounding Defence Minister Christopher Musa's purported departure

The Federal Government has labelled as false social media reports claiming that Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, plans to resign from his position, with the Office of the Minister describing these claims as malicious and entirely fabricated.

On Monday, a statement was issued by the Office of the Minister, titled “False Rumour Regarding the Honourable Minister of Defence,” and signed by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, urging the public to disregard the reports.

The statement revealed that the office had been made aware of online reports suggesting that General Musa intended to step down from his role, which prompted a strong denial from the Minister's office.

The office stated categorically that the rumours were absolute falsehoods, borne out of mischief, and emphasized that General Christopher Gwabin Musa remains fully focused on his responsibilities.

General Musa, a retired general and recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic, is committed to implementing the Federal Government’s national defence and security agenda, according to the statement.

The Minister also remains dedicated to overseeing the nation’s defence strategy and delivering on his mandate, as outlined by the Federal Government.

The government has urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information through official channels before publishing or sharing it, in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.

The statement cautioned the general public to disregard the fake news and advised media outlets and internet users to desist from spreading unverified information.

The Federal Government reiterated that General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Minister of Defence, remains in office and continues to discharge his duties as normal.
