Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged Corps Members to be ambassadors of national unity by promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds.

Oborevwori advised on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course, held at the Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Delta.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Kingsley Emu, said the friendships they have built at the camp should remind them that the country’s diversity remains one of the nation’s greatest strengths.

“I encourage you to remain security-conscious, law-abiding and mindful of your environment at all times.

n

“Avoid actions that may compromise your safety and always seek guidance from NYSC officials whenever necessary.

n

“As you proceed to your various places of primary assignment, I urge you to discharge your responsibilities with dedication, integrity and patriotism.

n

“Nigeria needs your energy, creativity and innovative spirit. Wherever you are posted, strive to be agents of positive change and contribute meaningfully to the development of your host communities,” he said.

According to the governor, one of the key objectives of the NYSC scheme is community development.

n

He, therefore, urged corps members to identify areas where their knowledge and skills could make a difference.

“Let your service year leave a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the people you serve.

n

“Take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme by equipping yourselves with practical skills that will enable you to create opportunities for others.

n

“In today’s competitive world, self-reliance and entrepreneurship are important and essential,” he said.

Mr John Kwaghe, the State Coordinator of NYSC, urged corps members to uphold the scheme’s ideals.

n

“Be law-abiding, respect the customs and traditions of your host communities, and discharge your duties with diligence, humility, and integrity,” he said.

He urged corps members to be worthy ambassadors of their families, institutions and the NYSC scheme.

n

“Let integrity, diligence, humility and excellence guide your conduct throughout the service year.

n

“As you proceed to your various places of primary assignment, I urge you to discharge your responsibilities with dedication, integrity and patriotism.

n

“Identify the genuine needs of your host communities and work with community leaders to implement projects that will improve lives and leave lasting memories.

n

“Let your service be measured by the positive impact you make in your host communities.

n

“As you begin the next phase of your service year, remember that national service is both a privilege and a responsibility,” he said.

He also commended Oborevwori for his unwavering support and for the enabling environment he provided for the smooth operation of the scheme in the state.

“We are encouraged by Your Excellency’s fatherly disposition and commitment to transforming Delta NYSC Orientation Camp into one of the best in the country.

n

“The NYSC in Delta remains committed to supporting the laudable policies and programmes of the state government.

n

He also appealed to the governor to fulfil his pledge on addressing the camp’s critical needs.

n

This, according to him, will enhance the smooth conduct of future orientation exercises,” he said.
