Gombe State University installs 24-hour CCTV surveillance to boost campus security

Gombe State University (GSU) has deployed a state-of-the-art Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system across its main campus as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect lives and property.

The university said the solar-powered, campus-wide surveillance network provides 24-hour monitoring of pedestrian, vehicular and bicycle movements across the institution. The system is linked to the University’s Central Security Control Room and supported by an upgraded walkie-talkie communication network to ensure swift response to security incidents.

In a statement issued on Friday by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Hadu Naphtali Ligari, the Chief Security Officer, retired Lieutenant Commander Jafaru Kamara, described the project as a significant enhancement of the institution’s security architecture.

Kamara commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta, and the university management for investing in the modern security infrastructure, noting that it would improve surveillance, coordination, emergency response and incident investigations.

Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor said the installation represents another milestone in the university’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.

According to Prof. Yauta, the CCTV system has already proven effective in reviewing security incidents and supporting the operations of the university’s security personnel.

He urged members of the Security Unit to make professional and efficient use of the facility while reaffirming the management’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed staff, students, visitors and members of the public that the university’s main campus is now under continuous 24-hour CCTV surveillance.

He explained that movements within the campus are being monitored to enhance security, deter criminal activities and promote accountability.

The university said the initiative reflects its sustained investment in modern security infrastructure and its determination to maintain a peaceful, secure and enabling environment for academic excellence, research and community service.
