Golf Star Tiger Woods Reveals He Was Distracted by Mobile Device Prior to Collision, According to Official Incident Report

Woods was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence after his vehicle was involved in a rollover crash near his Florida home, according to authorities.

According to an accident report released by police on Tuesday, Woods told authorities that he was distracted by his phone and changing radio channels before the crash occurred last Friday.

The golf superstar's SUV clipped a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck on Jupiter Island, Florida, causing his vehicle to roll onto its side, and Woods was forced to exit through the passenger's side door.

Fortunately, neither Woods nor the truck driver sustained any injuries in the incident.

Woods, a 15-time major champion, was charged with suspicion of misdemeanor DUI with property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful test after he declined to take urine tests, despite a breathalyzer test showing no alcohol in his system.

At the time of his arrest, Woods was found to be in possession of two hydrocodone pills, an opioid painkiller, and he was later released from the Martin County jail on Friday night after posting bond.

According to the accident report from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods stated that he was looking at his cell phone and changing the radio station when he failed to notice the vehicle in front of him had slowed down.

Sheriff’s deputies observed that Woods was sweating profusely, and his movements were described as lethargic and slow, with bloodshot and glassy eyes, and he was limping and stumbling to the right while walking.

When asked about his medical condition, Woods revealed that he has undergone seven back surgeries and over 20 operations on his leg, which has left him with a limp, and his ankle seizes up while walking.

Woods, 50, suffered severe leg injuries in a 2021 single-car crash in California, which required emergency surgery for multiple compound fractures in his right leg and a shattered ankle.

Despite struggling to walk 72 holes at Augusta National, Woods returned to competition at the 2022 Masters, where he finished 47th.

Following sobriety exams at the scene of the crash on Friday, Woods was found to be impaired and unable to safely operate a vehicle, according to the report.

Woods is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on the charges on April 23 in Stuart, Florida.

Next week, Woods is set to attend the Champions Dinner at Augusta National ahead of the 90th Masters.

Woods has not competed in a top-level golf event since the 2024 British Open, and he has been recovering from a ruptured left Achilles tendon suffered in March 2025 and back surgery undergone last October.
