Globacom is marking its 23rd anniversary with 23,178,597 active subscribers, according to the latest industry statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), reinforcing the operator’s position among Nigeria’s leading mobile network providers.

The subscriber figure, contained in the NCC’s April 2026 statistics, comes as Glo celebrates 23 years since commencing operations on August 29, 2003. The data shows Nigeria recorded 188,009,171 active mobile subscriptions, with Glo accounting for 23.18 million of the total subscriber base.

The latest figures also point to steady customer growth over the past year. NCC statistics show Glo’s active subscriber base increased from 20.61 million in April 2025 to 23.18 million in April 2026, representing a net gain of about 2.57 million subscribers.

The growth follows industry-wide subscriber adjustments triggered by the NIN-SIM verification exercise and reflects renewed momentum in the operator’s customer base.

According to the NCC, MTN retained the largest subscriber base with more than 90 million active lines, followed by Airtel and Glo, while 9mobile remained the smallest operator. The figures provide a snapshot of a competitive market where subscriber growth and retention remain key indicators of market performance.

The broader industry also continued to expand. Nigeria recorded a teledensity of 86.73 per cent, 120.68 million broadband subscriptions and more than 1.41 million terabytes of internet consumption in April 2026, underscoring the increasing reliance on mobile connectivity by individuals, businesses and public institutions.

For telecommunications operators, active subscriber numbers remain one of the clearest measures of market presence and customer retention.
