Ghana Withdraws from US Assistance Negotiations Due to Requirements for Individual Information Disclosure
Discussions between Ghana and the United States regarding a multi-year aid agreement have been terminated, according to a source familiar with the Ghanaian government, after the US insisted on obtaining access to the personal data of citizens.
nThis development comes as the US has been actively pursuing new health aid agreements with various African nations, following the dismantling of the USAID agency and the reduction of NGOs' roles under the administration of US President Donald Trump.
nA source revealed that the deal has been abandoned, stating "The deal is dead", and noted that Ghana's negotiating team comprised health officials, implying a potential connection to health-related matters.
nThe US negotiating team adopted a "hostile" stance and exerted significant "pressure" on Ghana after the country resisted the US demand for personal data, as disclosed by the source to AFP.
