Azikoro, Bayelsa State – 14th August 2025 – The atmosphere at the National Secretariat of the Phase Leaders was charged with admiration, pride, and respect earlier today as General Elaye ThankGod Dollar Slaboh, the National Chairman of the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum (Third Phase) under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), was decorated with the highly coveted Defender of Liberty Award by the Bayelsa Youth Leadership Awards.

The award, presented by the convener Comrade Atti Joshua Moses and his organising team, comes as a recognition of General Slaboh’s unwavering dedication to peace-building, youth empowerment, and the promotion of dialogue over confrontation in the Niger Delta. For years, General Slaboh has leveraged his leadership platform to actively discourage violent protests, criminal activities, and community unrest, instead fostering an environment where conflicts are addressed through mediation, negotiation, and constructive engagement.

In his remarks, Comrade Atti Joshua Moses lauded General Slaboh’s remarkable leadership style, describing him as a symbol of hope and stability for the Niger Delta’s youth.

“General Slaboh has demonstrated that true leadership is not about confrontation but about finding lasting solutions through understanding, unity, and mutual respect. His influence in steering youths away from crime and towards positive, constructive engagement cannot be overstated,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, General Slaboh expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, humbly referring to the recognition as an acknowledgment of “a little contribution” towards societal progress. He dedicated the award to members of his group, emphasising that their loyalty and commitment remain the backbone of his achievements.

“I commend you and your team for recognising me, and I dedicate this award to the members of my group because they are the source of my strength. I must also apologise for not being present on the original date of the event, the 12th of August, due to other unavoidable engagements,” he stated.

General Slaboh further encouraged the Bayelsa Youth Leadership Awards to broaden their future reach by engaging more youth leaders across Bayelsa State and the entire Niger Delta region. He stressed that collective collaboration among young leaders is vital for building lasting peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

Over the years, General Elaye Slaboh has emerged as one of the Niger Delta’s most respected peace advocates. Under his leadership, the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum (Third Phase) has launched and supported numerous initiatives aimed at rehabilitating and reintegrating former agitators, while promoting entrepreneurship, vocational training, and self-reliance among the youth. These efforts have not only reduced tensions in volatile communities but have also given many young people the tools and motivation to pursue legitimate livelihoods.

Today’s honour joins a growing list of awards and recognitions bestowed upon General Slaboh for his service to humanity, further solidifying his image as a Defender of Peace, Liberty, and Youth Development in the Niger Delta and beyond.
