Gbajabiamila expresses admiration for APC's primary election process in Surulere

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, characterized the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary election in Surulere Constituency I as a tranquil, equitable, and well-organized affair on Wednesday.

Following his participation in the primary election at Ward G2, also known as Adeniran Ogunsanya Ward 5, situated within Alaka Housing Estate in Surulere, Lagos, Gbajabiamila shared his thoughts with journalists.

As the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Gbajabiamila expressed admiration for the demeanor of party members and the serene atmosphere that pervaded the event, stating that he was pleased with the conduct of the exercise.

Gbajabiamila noted that Ward G2 is his home ward, where he has been casting his vote for as long as he has been involved in politics, and his reaction to the peaceful and credible election was one of joy.

He stated, "Whenever I participate in voting, regardless of the office or election, my response is always the same: I am delighted to see peaceful, fair, and orderly elections."

Gbajabiamila observed that the turnout for the primary election was impressive, considering it was an internal party contest, and praised the peaceful and orderly manner in which it was conducted.

The presidential aide remarked that the election was free from interference and transparent, which filled him with happiness, and he congratulated the people of Ward G2 on a successful exercise.

According to reports reaching Gbajabiamila from other wards, the primary election was peaceful throughout the constituency, with the feedback indicating a consistent pattern of calm and order.

Mr Ekundayo Decker, Chairman of the Leaders Forum in Ward G2, described the exercise as a testament to the APC's strong internal democracy, highlighting the peaceful and violence-free nature of the process.

Decker emphasized that the voting process was a genuine reflection of democratic principles, with a sizable turnout and no instances of disruption or conflict.

Offering advice to aspirants participating in the primary election, Decker urged contestants and their supporters to adopt a sporting attitude and accept the outcome of the process with grace and humility.

Decker's message to the contestants was to view the election as a game, where the winner should be congratulated and the loser should display good sportsmanship.

The Surulere Constituency I was a focal point of Wednesday's APC primaries, with a female party member and Gbajabiamila-backed aspirant, Mrs Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, competing against a third-term incumbent lawmaker, Desmond Elliott, who is seeking a fourth term in the State Assembly.
