Fubara pulls out of APC's gubernatorial nomination contest

Rivers state governor, Similayi Fubara, has made the decision to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primaries, which are set to take place on Thursday, May 21, as announced by Gov. Fubara By Daniel Abia.

Following a period of deep reflection and extensive discussions with his family, friends, and associates, Fubara declared, "I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries."

He expressed his commitment to supporting the eventual candidate of the party, stating, "I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party."

Fubara emphasized that leadership requires sacrifice, and there are times when personal ambitions must be set aside for the greater good of the people, highlighting that "Rivers State is bigger than any individual."

He prioritized the peace, stability, and unity of the state, saying, "at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest."

Fubara extended his gratitude to his supporters, acknowledging their disappointment, anger, and pain, and reassuring them that their loyalty and trust were not in vain.

He explained that his silence during this period was a deliberate and strategic decision, guided by the higher interest of the state and its people, and quoted a saying, "not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace."

Fubara expressed his appreciation for the platform and support provided by the All Progressives Congress, and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his support and encouragement.

He urged party faithful and supporters to remain committed to building a stronger and more united future together, emphasizing that "The APC remains our collective home."

Fubara clarified that his decision to step aside from the upcoming gubernatorial election was not driven by weakness, fear, or surrender, but rather by conviction and sacrifice, with the goal of promoting peace and unity in Rivers State.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Rivers state until the end of his term, stating, "I remain committed to serving the good people of Rivers state till the end of my term."
