The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that four persons were killed, two others injured, and two suspects arrested following a cult-related attack at the Post Office area of Ilorin on Sunday evening.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday afternoon.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026, when armed hoodlums reportedly stormed a makeshift bar near the railway line in the area and opened fire on people gathered there before fleeing the scene.
Police operatives were said to have responded swiftly to a distress call and evacuated the victims to the Police Clinic.
“Regrettably, four of the victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel, while two others are currently receiving treatment,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the attack is cult-related. The police further confirmed the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious cult group believed to be linked to the incident.
The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators with useful information to help track other members of the gang.
The command added that tactical and intelligence teams have been deployed to ensure that all individuals connected to the attack are apprehended and brought to justice.
It described the incident as a serious threat to public peace and safety, assuring that efforts are ongoing to prevent a recurrence.
The police also urged residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist the investigation.
