Former Kano state governor abandons ruling party

Kabiru Gaya, the former governor of Kano State, has submitted his resignation to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant departure from the party.

This decision was formally communicated in a letter to the ward chairman, Gaya Arewa, in Gaya Local Government Area, Kano State, where Gaya previously served as a Senator representing Kano South.

Gaya's resignation, effective 5th April 2026, was made in the best interests of his constituents and in line with his personal convictions to leave the party.

In his letter, Gaya expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have served under the APC platform, particularly during his tenure as a Senator from 2015 to 2023.

He acknowledged the support, trust, and opportunities provided to him during his time with the party, and emphasized that his decision to step aside was made after careful reflection and wide consultation.

Gaya extended his sincere gratitude to the APC for the platform it provided him and for the cooperation and camaraderie he experienced over the years, as he brought his tenure with the party to a close.
