Former Atiku assistant Abbas clinches ADP's top ticket

Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, ahead of the 2027 general elections, bringing a new wave of leadership to the forefront of Nigerian politics.

As the founder of the National Youth Alliance, a movement dedicated to empowering youth and women, Abbas is poised to bring about significant change, having previously served as a political aide to former Vice President and Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Abbas's candidacy was declared on Saturday morning at the party's national convention in Abuja, with the results announced at 5:30 a.m., sparking wild jubilation among supporters, as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Dickson, revealed that more details on the campaign's policy direction would be shared soon.

According to Dickson, Abbas's candidacy is built on his own merits, independent of any external influence, and marks a distinct departure from his previous role as a close aide to Atiku Abubakar, which ended over two years ago due to a widely recognized political divergence.

The statement from Dickson's office emphasized that Abbas's candidacy is autonomous, unaffiliated with old political blocs, and driven by the yearning of Nigerian youths for fresh leadership, underscoring the candidate's commitment to championing the cause of the younger generation.

Upon his declaration, Abbas expressed his vision for a new Nigeria, where artificial intelligence would be harnessed to drive progress, and assured that his leadership would be dedicated to national renewal, inclusive governance, and economic transformation, with a focus on empowering Nigerian youths.

Abbas characterized his emergence as a call to action for all Nigerians to unite behind a shared vision of progress, justice, and prosperity, transcending ethnic, religious, and regional divides, and embodying a collective determination to build a nation that works for all.

Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani, National Chairman of the ADP, congratulated party delegates, officers, members, and supporters for their steadfast commitment, noting that the party has presented itself as a credible alternative to Nigerians amidst deep economic pressure, insecurity, and social tension.

Sani emphasized the need for a new political attitude in Nigeria, one that prioritizes public service over self-enrichment, and highlighted the ADP's commitment to building a nation where every citizen can live in peace, work with dignity, and hope for a better future.
