Footage: Samuel Ajose withdraws to support Hamzat in Lagos APC contest

Samuel Ajose, a 2027 Lagos State governorship aspirant, has withdrawn from the contest prior to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, opting to back Obafemi Hamzat instead.

Ajose made the announcement on Tuesday, describing the decision as a challenging one, yet necessary for the sake of party unity and broader political stability within the Lagos APC.

In a personal reflection, Ajose disclosed that reaching this decision was a struggle, saying "I know it’s a very tough decision, I didn’t sleep overnight too, I struggled with it, but when I woke up this morning I had my peace."

He explained that his choice was the result of careful consideration, weighing what would be in the best interest of party members and stakeholders, stating "So that’s why I said everything that everyone we will benefit, give it to the govers we’re till going to benefit."

Ajose formally declared his withdrawal, stating "In the interest of the party, I Governor Samuel Anose have decided I will let go, I will support Governor Hazmat we’re going to be part of the campaign we’re going to take an important position in his campaign."

Ajose's decision to step down comes after another significant withdrawal, that of former Lagos governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, who pulled out of the race and endorsed Obafemi Hamzat weeks earlier.

Jandor's withdrawal was reportedly prompted by the endorsement of Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu and key All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Lagos State.
