Federal University Oye-Ekiti takes disciplinary action against pair linked to viral footage of ousted students' union leader

The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, has taken disciplinary action against two students, suspending them due to their alleged role in cyberbullying James Iyanuoluwa Adio, the suspended President of the Students’ Union Government.

This decision was made public through a statement on the university's news portal on Friday, which was signed by Professor Tajudeen Opoola, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, via the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration.

The students in question, Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel, were accused of conspiring to cyberbully Adio by sharing details of his private life online.

According to the statement, the reason behind their actions was Adio's alleged inability to meet their financial demands, prompting them to post his private affairs online.

The university management strongly condemned the alleged cyberbullying, viewing it as behaviour that could potentially damage the institution's reputation.

Although investigations are still underway, the management has directed the two students to proceed on immediate suspension, emphasizing the university's commitment to eliminating actions that could tarnish its image.

The suspension of these students follows the recent suspension of Adio himself, as well as the Deputy Director of Students Affairs, over allegations of extortion.

Adio was accused of being indirectly involved in the collection of ₦1,000 from newly admitted students for practical sessions, with approximately ₦700,000 linked to this exercise found in his personal bank account.
