Federal Government gets nod for 63 diplomatic appointments, six awaiting clearance

The Federal Government has obtained approval from 63 countries to accept ambassadors appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with six other postings still pending clearance from their host nations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This development follows the receipt of agréements, which signifies the acceptance of the diplomats as Nigeria's principal envoys in their respective countries of assignment, the ministry stated on Tuesday.

The Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, presented Letters of Credence to the Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate to Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, and Egypt, following confirmation of their acceptance by the host countries.

These four diplomats are among the 69 ambassadors appointed by President Tinubu, with 63 agréments received so far from countries where the envoys have been posted, the ministry disclosed.

A statement from the ministry revealed that Ambassador Enikanolaiye presented the Letters of Credence to the Ambassadors/High Commissioners Designate on Monday, June 22, 2026, after receiving confirmation of agrément from the countries.

The presentation signifies that the countries will serve as the principal envoys of Nigeria, and the ministry noted that the affected ambassadors have departed to their respective countries to commence their tour of duty.

Out of the 69 Ambassadors appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a total of 63 agréments have been received from countries including India and South Africa, the ministry stated.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is optimistic that the remaining countries will convey their acceptance of the Ambassadors posted to their capitals, thereby consolidating cordial diplomatic relations with Nigeria.
